Overview
A 55-metre waterfall in Myoko, chosen among Japan's hundred finest falls.
About this place
Naena Falls is a waterfall on the border of Niigata and Nagano Prefectures, with a parking lot and access route on the Myoko, Niigata Prefecture, side. It is also written Naenae Falls, Nanai Falls and Jishin Falls (Earthquake Falls). It lies in the upper Seki River, with four falls in a series; the second, third and fourth falls are difficult to reach. It is one of Japan's 100 Waterfalls. It was created when andesite lava from Mount Kurohime dammed the Seki River. There was a rock at the lip, and the fall once split left and right, but when the Takada domain floated cut timber down it (in 1813), the rock broke off, giving the fall its present form.
