A temple in Sado that began in 1278 when a disciple of Nichiren made his house a temple. A five-storey pagoda stands here.
About this place
Myosenji is a Nichiren-sect temple in Abutsubo, Sado, Niigata Prefecture. It is one of the three head temples of the Nichiren sect on Sado, founded by Abutsubo Nittoku, a disciple of Nichiren, who made his own home into a temple. Its mountain name is Rengeozan. The principal image is Shaka Nyorai. According to tradition, it was founded in 1221 (Jokyu 3). In 1326 (Karyaku 1), it moved to Takeda. In 1589 (Tensho 17), it moved to its present site (the Sawata Castle ruins). The current head is the 47th chief priest, Seki Nichido (who moved from Enjoji in Sado). Tsushi Hoen.
