Overview
A 321-metre mountain in Minamiuonuma, where the dogtooth violets flower earliest in the city.
About this place
Rokumangiyama is a mountain in Minamiuonuma, Niigata Prefecture, with an elevation of 320.7 m. A hiking course has been developed from the Fumoto settlement, and colonies of dogtooth violets can be seen. At the summit are the ruins of Rokumangi Castle. The name is said to come from making the enemy think it could house sixty thousand cavalry. From here the Muikamachi Basin spreads out below. Get off at Muikamachi Station on the Joetsu Line. Take the Minami Echigo Kanko Bus from in front of Muikamachi Station for 23 minutes and get off at the Fumoto stop; the trailhead is 300 m away (5 minutes on foot).
