Overview
Terraced paddies in Sanjo at the foot of Mount Awagatake, chosen among Japan's hundred finest terraced fields.
About this place
The Kita-Imogawa terraced rice fields are terraced rice fields in Kita-Imogawa, Sanjo, Niigata Prefecture (the former Shitada Village, Morimachi Village), in the Hokuriku region of Japan. Located at the foot of Mount Awagatake, one of Japan's 300 Famous Mountains, they were selected as one of Japan's 100 Terraced Rice Fields (1999) and as a Connecting Terraced Rice Field Heritage - Passing Local Pride to the Future (Post-100 Terraced Rice Fields) (February 2022). There is a promenade, the Kita-Imogawa Terraced Rice Field Promenade, about 1.5 kilometers long, for strolling to Okubo no Shimizu, the water source of the terraced rice fields.
