About this place
Kitayamaike Park is an urban park in Konan Ward, Niigata, Niigata Prefecture. It is a park developed around Kitayamaike, a dune lake formed in a hollow of the Kameda Sand Dune, and opened in 1984 (Showa 59). Around the pond are planted 130 Somei Yoshino cherry trees and double-flowered cherries including Gyoiko (Gyoiko), and it is known as a cherry blossom spot. Six ponds of various sizes once dotted the Kameda Sand Dune, but the others were filled in, so Kitayamaike is the only one remaining.
