About this place
A weeping cherry tree about 120 years old and about 15 m tall, in the middle of the village of Kuriyamazawa in the Tochio area of Nagaoka, Niigata Prefecture. It is said that a villager who was in the Sendai artillery unit during the Russo-Japanese War brought back seeds of the Otome-zakura from the inner garden of the Sendai domain and grew it. At the village's Sakura Hiroba, a handmade cherry blossom viewing party is held for one day only, timed with the blooming.
