Overview
A gorge in Bungo-ono.
About this place
Kawakami Gorge is a gorge on a tributary of the Okudake River (also written with a variant character) in the Ono River system at Obira Mine, Ogata-cho, Bungoono, Oita Prefecture. It is also called Okudake Gorge (also written with a variant character). It is designated Sobo-Katamuki Quasi-National Park. It is near the prefectural border with Miyazaki Prefecture, at the headwaters of the Okudake River, which originates in the Sobo mountain range. With the strange peaks of Mt. Sobo behind, a mountain stream flowing through a V-shaped valley formed of granite amid thick primeval forest is sometimes rated the most beautiful of the many gorges in the Sobo range.
