Overview
Cliff Buddhas in Bungo-ono, carved into the rock face.
About this place
A cliff-carved Buddha in Chitose, Bungoono. With a strange face as if wearing a mask, it was made by applying clay mixed with fibers such as hemp to the rock face. The rock is a hardened pyroclastic flow from about 600,000 years ago, and since it is fragile it is thought to have been shaped in clay. It is designated a prefectural tangible cultural property (historical material).
