Cliff-carved Buddhas in Inukai, Bungo-ono. They are carved into a rock face reached from National Route 326.

About this place

A cliff-carved Buddha in Inukai, Bungoono. Carved into Aso pyroclastic flow welded tuff from about 90,000 years ago, it is presumed from the style of the figures to date from the Kamakura period. A seated Fudo Myoo is carved in the center, flanked by Seitaka Doji and Kongara Doji. There is also a poem monument with a tanka that Yosano Akiko wrote on her visit.
