Overview
A mountain range across Saiki and neighbouring areas, registered as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
About this place
A mountain range spanning Oita and Miyazaki Prefectures. The ridgeline running from Mt. Sobo (1,756 m, one of the 100 Famous Mountains of Japan) through Mt. Koso and Mt. Hontani to Mt. Katamuki creates a unique landscape of steep rock walls. In the core area of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, Akebono azaleas bloom across the area in spring, and the Japanese serow (a Special Natural Monument) also lives here.
