About this place
Iwai-daki is a waterfall in Nakatsugawa, Kamisaibara, Kagamino, Tomata District, Okayama Prefecture. The vicinity is within Hyonosen-Ushiroyama-Nagisan Quasi-National Park, and the clear water gushing out 100 m downstream from the falls is called Iwai and was selected in 1985 (Showa 60) as one of Japan's Top 100 Famous Waters. An andesite bedrock (called 'Toriiwa' locally) that has intruded 25 km into the mountains of Nakatsugawa from the Tottori prefectural border, carrying the clear water of the Chugoku Mountains around Mt. Mikuni, forms a rock chamber, and from above it the water becomes a waterfall about 10 m high and 6 m wide.
