About this place
Okutsu Gorge is a scenic spot in Kagamino, Okayama Prefecture. It is a gorge in the upper reaches of the Yoshii River (= Okutsu River) flowing through the prefecture, designated a National Place of Scenic Beauty (designated in Showa 7). A gorge of about 3 km, its surroundings are designated Yubara-Okutsu Prefectural Natural Park. The area is made of granite, and the gorge was formed by its being eroded over a long time; it is characterized by countless potholes. It is also known for its clear stream, and sculpins breed throughout the area.
