About this place
A townscape in Ushimado, Setouchi. A town that has flourished since long ago as a port for waiting for wind and tide on the western sea route, it was praised in the Manyoshu and the Sankashu. In the Edo period, sankin-kotai processions and Korean envoys called at the port, and its prosperity was called Ushimado Senken. The narrow, winding streets recall the prosperity of the past.
