About this place
Tenranzan is a mountain in Hanno, Saitama Prefecture. Its elevation is 197 m (195 m on the sign at the summit). It has the feel of a hill rather than a mountain. Tenranzan was originally called Atagoyama because Atago Gongen was enshrined at Noninji temple at its foot. Later, in the Edo period, the fifth shogun Tsunayoshi's mother Keishoin offered stone statues of the sixteen arhats in thanks for his recovery from illness, and it came to be called Rakanyama.
