About this place
A stone signpost in Kusatsu, Shiga, at the fork between the Tokaido and the Yabase Road. Erected in 1798 (Kansei 10) on the north side of the eaves of the former Ubagamochi shop, it guided travelers on the Tokaido to the Yabase ferry landing. It is depicted in Utagawa Hiroshige's ukiyo-e and in the Tokaido Meisho Zue, and today the gourd maker and seller Hyotando stands there.
