About this place
An old Obaku sect temple in Omihachiman, Shiga, founded in 829. It drew the devotion of Hachiman merchants, and its principal image, the Thousand-Armed Eleven-Headed Kannon statue, dates from the Heian period and contains a prayer text for the making of the statue inside its body. The garden, composed of stones and satsuki azaleas with a pond, is a fine Momoyama-period garden that was celebrated in haiku.
