About this place
Hongan-ji Hachiman Betsuin is a branch temple (betsuin) of the Jodo Shinshu Hongan-ji school (Nishi Hongan-ji) in Omihachiman, Shiga Prefecture. Hachiman Betsuin is affectionately called 'Gobo-san.' The Shiga Diocese administrative office is installed within the precincts, and it functions as the base of the Hongan-ji school in Shiga Prefecture. It originates from Kondai-ji, founded in 1558 (Eiroku 1) by the 11th Hongan-ji head Kennyo at Gamono in Omi Province.
