About this place
The Setagawa Arai Weir is a weir (movable weir) built off Nango, Otsu, Shiga Prefecture. The old weir built in the Meiji era is called the Nango Arai Weir. The top of this weir has a two-lane road and a sidewalk, and it is the starting point of Shiga Prefectural Route 108 Nango-Kiryu-Kusatsu Line. It is operated for water use and flood control by damming the water of the Seta River, the only natural river flowing out of Lake Biwa. The weir is managed by the Biwako River Office, Kinki Regional Development Bureau, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.
