Overview
A temple in Nagahama, said to have been founded by Taicho in 728, which served as the Azai family's prayer hall.
About this place
A temple in Nagahama, Shiga. It was one of the monks' quarters built on Mt. Odani in 728 (Jinki 5) when the monk Taicho opened ascetic training grounds on the peaks from Hakusan to Mt. Ibuki, and was then called Joshoji. After Azai Sukemasa built a castle on Mt. Odani, it became the Azai clan's prayer temple and was renamed Odaniji. When Odani Castle fell, everything but the principal image was burned, and Toyotomi Hideyoshi rebuilt it at its present location.
