About this place
Akaten (also written with a different character for 'ten') is a fish paste product made and sold mainly in Hamada, Shimane Prefecture. It is classified as a fish cutlet. Fish surimi is kneaded with red chili pepper, coated on the surface with breadcrumbs, and fried. As a result, as the product name says, it has a red hue and a kick of spiciness. There are several manufacturers in Hamada, and also in Matsue (formerly Higashiizumo Town). It is generally sold at supermarkets throughout Shimane Prefecture. Gyorokke, Minchi-ten (Saga Prefecture, Oita Prefecture, etc.)
