About this place
Hinomisaki Shrine is a shrine enshrined at Hinomisaki in Izumo, Shimane Prefecture. It is commonly called Misaki-san. It is revered as the 'ancestral deity' (oyagami-sama) of Izumo Taisha. Twelve shrine buildings and others are designated National Important Cultural Properties. This shrine consists of two shrines, upper and lower; the upper shrine is called Kami no Miya and the lower shrine Hishizumi no Miya (also written with a variant character), and together the two shrines are called Hinomisaki Shrine (Hinomisaki Daijingu).
