Overview
The house in Matsue where Lafcadio Hearn lived, with the room that looks onto the garden preserved.
About this place
The former samurai residence of a Matsue domain retainer where Lafcadio Hearn, known for Kwaidan, lived with his wife Setsu from June to November 1891 (Meiji 24). In addition to a room with views of the garden on three sides, the garden Hearn loved remains as it was. In the study are replicas of his favorite desk and chair, which you can actually sit on and experience.
