About this place
Shiomi Nawate is a street in Matsue, Shimane Prefecture. A Matsue City Designated Traditional Scenic District. Shiomi Nawate is a street of about 500 meters along the moat on the north side of Matsue Castle, from Meimeian to the former residence of Lafcadio Hearn (Koizumi Yakumo), and is one of the roads built when the castle town was developed at the time Matsue Castle was constructed. As a road route name under law, it is designated as part of Principal Local Road Matsue-Kashima-Mihonoseki Line. It is now a two-lane paved road, but long ago it was a narrow nawate path just wide enough for palanquins and handcarts to pass.
