Overview
A branch temple of Rinnoji on Mount Nikko. Unusually in Japan, you can bathe in a hot spring within the temple.
About this place
A branch temple of Nikko-san Rinnoji, a World Heritage site, in Yumoto, Nikko, Tochigi. Yakushi Ruriko Nyorai is the principal image, and it derives from the priest Shodo, who opened Nikko, discovering Yumoto Onsen in Enryaku 7 (788). A rare temple in Japan with a hot spring in its kitchen quarters, it accepts day-trip bathing (overnight retreat), and offers sutra copying from late April to the end of November.
