About this place
The Takagai stone walls (Takagai no Ishizumi) are stone walls in Misato, Yoshinogawa, Tokushima Prefecture. Selected for Japan's Top 100 Villages (Nihon no Sato 100-sen) and also as an Important Cultural Landscape by the Agency for Cultural Affairs. The stone walls of the Misato district, developed to open steep slopes for farmland and houses, and Takagai is located at the highest place, commonly called 'Sora.' In spring moss phlox (shibazakura) bloom in profusion, a Shibazakura Festival is held, and illumination is also provided during the period. About 20 minutes by car from Awa-Yamakawa Station on the JR Tokushima Line.
