Overview
A craft of Mugi: hand-made paper lanterns.
About this place
Andon lanterns handed down for a long time in Mugi, Tokushima Prefecture. There was a custom of displaying them under the eaves of each home every year around Tanabata on the old lunar calendar. To keep the custom alive, the local group Mugi Andon no Kai gathers andon from inside and outside the town every year during the Obon season and holds the Mugi Andon Exhibition, and visitors can also try everything from assembling the wooden frame to painting it (reservation required).
