Overview
The 1653 intake of the Tamagawa aqueduct, built to bring water from the Tama River to Edo.
About this place
A water intake weir in the Tama area of Tokyo. Since 1653, in the Edo period, it has supported people's lives as the intake weir for the Tamagawa Aqueduct. The raw water taken in is channeled to the Murayama and Yamaguchi reservoirs, and during heavy rain or typhoons, when the water level rises, the Nagewatashi weir boards are removed to suppress the rise in river level.
