Overview
A museum in Mitaka, the only one conveying the world of Studio Ghibli.
About this place
The Ghibli Museum, Mitaka is an animation museum run by Mitaka City, in the western part of Inokashira Onshi Park in Mitaka, Tokyo. Its official name is the Mitaka City Animation Museum. The designated manager is the Tokuma Memorial Animation Cultural Foundation, a public interest incorporated foundation. It was conceived by Miyazaki Hayao, who is deeply involved with Studio Ghibli (hereafter Ghibli), and opened in 2001. As its name suggests, it holds and exhibits many Ghibli-related items. The building itself was also designed from cross-section sketches by Miyazaki Hayao.
