Overview
A museum in Sumida showing the work of Katsushika Hokusai, who was born here.
About this place
The Sumida Hokusai Museum (English name: The Sumida Hokusai Museum) is a public art museum in Kamezawa, Sumida Ward, Tokyo. It opened on 22 November 2016 (Heisei 28). It was established here because Katsushika Hokusai, an ukiyo-e artist of the late Edo period, spent his life in the Honjo area (now part of Sumida Ward), and because he is said to have been born in Honjo Waridashi, and Kamezawa lies along the line of today's Hokusai-dori, which corresponds to what was then the Minami Waridashi, so it is included among the places connected with him.
