About this place
Kiyosu Bridge is a bridge over the Sumida River that carries Tokyo Metropolitan Route 474 Hamacho-Kitasunacho Line (Kiyosubashi-dori). The west bank is Nihonbashi Nakazu in Chuo Ward, and the east bank is Kiyosumi 1-chome in Koto Ward. The name 'Kiyosu' was chosen by public competition, taken from Kiyozumi-cho in Fukagawa Ward and Nakasu-cho in Nihonbashi Ward, which were on the two banks when it was built. It was planned together with Eitai Bridge as part of the reconstruction work after the Great Kanto Earthquake. It was designed as a pair with Eitai Bridge, which was called the 'Gate of the Imperial Capital Tokyo', and its elegant design was also called the 'Flower of Earthquake Reconstruction'.
