About this place
Kanda Myojin is a shrine in 2-chome Sotokanda, Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo. Its official name is Kanda Shrine. It is known as the shrine that holds the Kanda Matsuri. It is the chief guardian shrine of 108 neighborhood associations, including Kanda, Nihonbashi (north of the Nihonbashi River), Akihabara, Otemachi, Marunouchi, the former Kanda Market and the Tsukiji fish market. Its former shrine rank was prefectural shrine (a quasi-imperial-festival shrine until 1870 (Meiji 3)). It is now a Beppyo shrine of the Association of Shinto Shrines. It is also one of the Tokyo Ten Shrines, former quasi-imperial-festival shrines.
