Overview

A seated Amida counted among Japan's three great Buddhas, cast with the bronze-working skill of Takaoka.

About this place

A bronze seated statue of Amida Nyorai at Daibutsu-ji Temple in Takaoka. It is 16 m high, gathers the local copperware manufacturing technology, and was completed over 26 years starting in 1907. It is one of the three great Buddhas of Etchu, and the inside of its pedestal is a corridor hung with 13 Buddhist paintings, including paintings of hell.
