Overview
A World Heritage site, with gassho-zukuri houses standing in a valley.
About this place
A World Heritage settlement in Gokayama, Toyama Prefecture. Gassho-zukuri houses about 100 to 350 years old stand in rows, and 20 gassho-zukuri houses still survive today. The thatched gassho-zukuri is a house type found in Japan only in this neighborhood, and there are also the original-form Genshi Gassho, the only one left in Gokayama, and a thatched temple. People still live in the settlement, and seasonal illuminations are also held.
