About this place
Okunoin on Mt. Koya in Koya, Wakayama, one of the two great sacred sites of Mt. Koya along with Danjo Garan, and the place of the mausoleum of Kobo Daishi Kukai. It is regarded as the center of faith. Kobo Daishi entered eternal meditation in 835, at the age of 62, and there is a belief that he has continued meditating here for 1,200 years.
