Overview
About 850 metres of rocks standing in the sea at Kushimoto — some 40 pillars in a straight line.
About this place
Hashikui-iwa is a group of strange rocks in Kushimoto, Higashimuro District, Wakayama Prefecture. From the coast of Hashikui in Kujinokawa, Oaza, in the same town, toward Kii-Oshima, about 40 rocks, large and small, stand in a continuous line stretching about 850 meters from north-northwest to south-southeast. Because the rocks standing in a straight line look like bridge piers (hashikui), it is called Hashikui-iwa. At low tide you can also walk across to Benten Island, attached to the middle of the row of rocks.
