About this place
Enjugahama is a coast in Mihama, Hidaka District, Wakayama Prefecture. It has a black pine grove; the pine grove, about 4.5 km long overall, is the largest in the Kinki region. The surrounding area is designated Enju Coast Prefectural Natural Park. Facing the Pacific Ocean, a bow-shaped gravel coast continues for about 4 km from the mouth of the Hidaka River. Behind it is a pine grove said to have been planted as a tidal-protection forest by Tokugawa Yorinobu, the first lord of Kishu Domain. It has been selected for Japan's Top 100 White Sand and Green Pine Beaches. A campground is available.
