About this place
Misato Observatory is an astronomical observatory in Kimino, Kaiso District, Wakayama Prefecture. Its formal name under the ordinance is Kimino Town Hoshi no Dobutsuen (Star Zoo). It opened on July 7, 1995 at an elevation of 430 meters. Its 105 cm aperture Cassegrain telescope boasted the largest aperture of any public telescope in Japan at the time of opening. It is also a public observatory equipped with a system, the first in the world, that can deliver telescope images worldwide via the Internet.
