About this place
Taiji Whale Museum (Taiji Town Whale Museum) is a museum in Kujirahama Park in Taiji, Higashimuro District, Wakayama Prefecture, a town that prospered through coastal whaling. It has materials on the history of whaling and the Osemi Nagare incident. It opened in 1969 with the aim of passing the history and techniques of whaling in Taiji on to later generations. In a building painted with a large whale picture, more than 1,000 items, including skeleton specimens of various whales and materials on whale ecology and whaling, are exhibited.
