Overview
A shrine in Asahi built in 1990, whose object of worship is the air itself.
About this place
Kuki Shrine is a monument on the grounds of Asahi Shizenkan in the Asahi mountains of Asahi, Nishimurayama District, Yamagata Prefecture, and is not a shrine that is an object of worship. It began when Shirakawa Chiyoo, a resident of Asahi, proposed in the March 1975 issue of Koho Asahi (the town's newsletter) building an Air Shrine to give thanks for air, the most important thing for people. It was not realized in Shirakawa's lifetime, but townspeople who remembered his words built the Air Shrine as part of efforts to revitalize the town.
