About this place
Uriwari Stone Garden Park is a park in Takahata, Higashiokitama District, Yamagata Prefecture. Visitors can see the remains of the Uriwari quarry, which was worked from 1923 to 2010. It is known as a quarry for Takahata stone, and quarrying continues today. It is said that the name came about because a melon (uri) chilled in the quarry's clear water split (waru). In the middle of the stone there is a tunnel, and beyond the tunnel there is a space.
