Overview
White towers formed as sub-zero droplets and snow build up on Aomori fir. Late January is the time to see them.
About this place
Rime ice seen on Zao in Yamagata. It grows large through the repeated "icing," in which seasonal wind carrying sub-zero water droplets freezes onto trees, and "snow accretion," in which snow gets into the gaps. It is usually at its best from late December to late February. You can enjoy it by ropeway, by the night snow-vehicle tour "Night Cruiser" and by the rime ice illumination.
