Overview
A hot spring in Tendo. The town makes more shogi pieces than anywhere in Japan and often hosts title matches.
About this place
A hot spring in Tendo, Yamagata. In this city where shogi piece production is thriving, professional title matches are held almost every year, and designs based on shogi pieces can be seen on sidewalks, foot baths, manholes, bridges and more. There are a piece-writing experience (reservation required) and the Tendo City Shogi Museum, and in spring the weeping cherry trees along the Kuratsu River are lit up, while from summer to autumn tourist orchards of cherries, grapes and apples open.
