About this place
Hachiman Akita Shrine is a shrine in Senshu Park, Akita, Akita Prefecture. It was established when Hachiman Shrine and Akita Shrine were merged and renamed in 1907 (Meiji 40). Hachiman Shrine was transferred from Iwashimizu Hachimangu in Yamashiro Province (Kyoto) by Satake Yoshikiyo, the clan's restorer, in the days when the Satake clan was still based at Ota Castle in Hitachi Province, and moved to Hachimanyama in the Sannomaru of Kubota Castle when the Satake clan was transferred to Akita. In 1878 (Meiji 11) it was moved from the Kubota Castle site to Higashi-Nekoyacho in the castle town (now Nakadori 2-chome).
