About this place
The Tagawa City Coal and History Museum is a museum in Coal Memorial Park at 2734-1 Ita, Tagawa, Fukuoka Prefecture. It specialises in coal mining history, displaying materials on the coal industry of the Chikuho coalfield, which once supported Japan's energy. It opened in 1983 (Showa 58) as the Tagawa City Coal Museum on the site of the Ita Pit of the Mitsui Tagawa Mining Office, the largest coal mine in the Chikuho region.
