About this place
Komachi-dori is a street in Kamakura, Kanagawa Prefecture. The present Komachi-dori was anciently a farm road called 'Seto Kochi', and urbanisation progressed when Kamakura Station on the national railway Yokosuka Line opened in 1889 (Meiji 22). In the Kamakura period, trade was permitted on Komachi-oji (also called Tsujisseppo-dori) on the east side of Wakamiya-oji, and before the Great Kanto Earthquake a few merchant houses stood in the area where the Tokyu Store now stands, but most were damaged and moved together to Komachi-dori. In 1952 (Showa 27) the Kamakura Komachi Shopping Association was organised.
