About this place
Kuma shochu is a rice shochu made in Kuma District, Kumamoto Prefecture, and in Hitoyoshi. It is known as a representative rice shochu and was registered in 1995 as a Geographical Indication for alcoholic beverages by the National Tax Agency. To be covered by the Geographical Indication, the following requirements apply. Only domestically grown rice is used as the grain raw material Only koji made from domestically grown rice is used Only water drawn in Kuma District or Hitoyoshi is used Fermentation and distillation are carried out in Kuma District or Hitoyoshi
