About this place
The Yamaga Lantern Festival is a festival of Omiya Shrine at Yamaga Onsen in Yamaga, Kumamoto Prefecture, and its events are held every year from August 15 to 17. To the melody of the folk song 'Yoheho Bushi', women in yukata dance through the city with gold lanterns (kanatoro) made of gold and silver Japanese paper on their heads. Along with the autumn grand festival of Fujisaki Hachimangu in Kumamoto and the Myoken Festival of Yatsushiro Shrine in Yatsushiro, it is counted as one of the leading annual events of Kumamoto Prefecture.
