About this place
The Ise Sangu Kaido is the general name for roads developed as pilgrimage routes to Ise Grand Shrine from various parts of Japan. They are called the Ise Kaido, the Ise Hon Kaido and the Sangu Kaido. The roads before the modern era are as follows. Note that the name Ise Kaido in its broad sense is also used for each of these roads. (It is often used in the form Ise Kaido (such-and-such Kaido).) In the narrow sense it is used as follows. The road that separates from the Tokaido at the Hinaga junction and leads to Ise.
