About this place
Ushi no Tsunotsuki (bull-butting) is a kind of bullfighting that has been held since the Edo period around the "Nijumura-go" area, including the Yamakoshi district of Nagaoka (the former Yamakoshi Village), Niigata Prefecture, and Ojiya. It is designated a nationally Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property. It was suspended by the 2004 Chuetsu earthquake in Niigata Prefecture, but in 2005 it resumed with temporary bullfighting rings: Nagaoka Higashiyama Family Land in Nagaoka and the Ojiya Hakusan General Athletic Field in Ojiya.
