One of the strongest carbonated springs in Japan. The custom of drinking the water survives.
About this place
Nagayu Onsen is a hot spring in Naoiricho, Taketa, Oita Prefecture (former Bungo Province). In terms of carbonic acid concentration, flow volume and temperature, it is regarded as 'one of the world's leading carbonated springs' and 'one of Japan's leading carbonated springs', and is known for its effects (including drinking the water). Source temperature: 24.6 C - 52 C Flow: 16.1-290 litres per minute Hydrogen carbonate springs vary in colour from clear to yellowish-white cloudy depending on the source. Carbon dioxide springs are colourless and clear. Each facility basically uses free-flowing source water.
